Alien Romulus Sigourney Weaver

Upcoming Alien Prequel 'Romulus' to Feature New Cast, Set Between Original and Sequel

Standalone film directed by Fede Álvarez

Sigourney Weaver's Ripley not returning

Romulus, the upcoming horror film set in the Alien franchise, will feature a standalone story that takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens. Directed by Fede Álvarez, the film will follow a group of young space colonizers who encounter a terrifying extraterrestrial life form while exploring a derelict station.

Sigourney Weaver, who played Ellen Ripley in the original Alien films, will not be returning for Romulus. Instead, the film will feature a new cast of characters, including Cailee Spaeny, who has previously starred in films such as The Craft: Legacy and Bad Times at the El Royale.

The film's placement in the timeline makes it impossible for Ripley to appear, but it does leave open the possibility for the return of other characters from the Alien universe. Álvarez has previously stated that he is a fan of the original film and the sequel, and that he hopes to honor the legacy of the franchise while also bringing something new to the table.

Romulus is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 10, 2023.
